"Show off! 5 of your best blog posts!"

Hopefully, this one won't be too difficult because I haven't been blogging that long. I only have 130-ish posts to choose from, and they're certainly not all my best. Not too hard, right?

Why I Don't Like Science Fiction and Fantasy: This is the first post that leaped to my mind. Looking back on it, I think I got a little strong in my criticism (well, maybe more than a little), but I still feel like it was a good post. It really got people talking, and I was pleased to get lots of recommendations for good sci-fi and fantasy. What I like about this post is that I got some things off my chest, but I also learned after writing it that I might be missing out on some great books. Which brings me to...

Is it okay to be a snob?: I started thinking about this after I wrote the SF/F post. I started realizing that maybe I'm the one missing out. I like this post because I got brave enough to criticize myself and realize that I need to fix what needs fixing.

A Room With a View by E.M. Forster: I think this is one of my better reviews (if you can call it that). I felt that I said everything I had to say, and it inspired a fair number of comments, which was nice.

Beating Up Austen...Or Not: In this post, I muse about Jane Austen and what I love about her in a rational manner (aka no fangirling).

Minding the Gap in Historical Fiction: This post was interesting to think about and write, even though it isn't as popular as some of the other posts I've mentioned. I like when a classic shifts my paradigm about books in general.

That was fun! I'm nearing my one-year anniversary here on the blog, so it's been fun to look back on what I've done.

  1. If I remember correctly, the post about Sci-Fi and Fantasy is what made me subscribe to your blog :) Of course I was reading it with the feeling "poor girl, what kind of crap of sci-fi and fantasy has she been reading?", but you've mentioned some of the biggest problems in the not-so-good examples of the genre and made a great list of possible reasons to prefer other genres. And I like honest people, even though they don't love some of my favourite genres :)

    1. Haha! The more I've thought about the sci-fi and fantasy I've read, the more I realize how many "exceptions" I've also read. I need to re-evaluate the genre(s). :) I'm glad you could overlook my cruelty toward a perfectly legitimate genre.
