2014 I Love Library Books Reading Challenge

I'm obsessed with the library, so this is naturally the perfect challenge for me.

The goal is simply to read books from the library. (More details here.) Here are the levels:
  • board book - 3
  • picture book - 6
  • early reader - 9
  • chapter book - 12
  • middle grades - 18
  • Young adult - 24
  • adult - 36
  • just insert IV - 50
I'll go for the "early reader" level, just to make things easy.

Now, since we're talking challenges, I'll just slip in a little note here... This year's challenges were awesome, but I kind of overdid it (hey, it was my first year doing challenges, I didn't know what I was doing). Even though I've *mostly* been able to reach my goals, I don't want to make things hard on myself in 2014. Especially because it's not like I'm not reading (I practically live with my nose in a book, as an English major), so I really don't need challenges in order to get myself reading. School in itself is like a big reading challenge! So, as much as I love the very idea of challenges and as much as I would love to sign up for every other one I see, I have restrained myself. In 2014, I'm only doing challenges that will allow me to use my school reading or my just-for-fun reading to fulfill the requirements. (Like the Outdo Yourself challenge.) Challenges like the Chunkster Challenge or the Books on France challenge started out fun, but they ended up being just another thing on my to-do list. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know why I'm so sparse on challenges for this coming year. However, I love seeing all the challenges that you're all signing up for and I'm eager to see what you read next year!

Books Read:

Austenland by Shannon Hale
Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder
Handling the Truth: On the Writing of Memoir by Beth Kephart
Garlic and Sapphires by Ruth Reichl
The Little Bookstore of Big Stone Gap by Wendy Welch
Devotion by Dani Shapiro
A Three Dog Life by Abigail Thomas
Refuge by Terry Tempest Williams
Giant by Edna Ferber
Blue Nights by Joan Didion
Psycho by Robert Bloch

  1. You've written very wise words that perhaps I should have read before posting all my challenges for 2014! You are so right that you want to be able to enjoy your reading and not feel like the books are just another chore to deal with. I'm glad you are pulling back for 2014. That was my intention but I may not reach that goal until 2015.

It was fun to look at the challenges you've chosen for this year! All the best!

  2. Yeah. Every year I think I'm going to cut back. And then...
But I kind of figure that if I WORK in a library it's cheating to join this one. :)

    1. Haha. You're so great at completing challenges though! (Much better than I am...) And yeah, that makes sense, hah. :)

  3. I'm doing this one too! 2014 will be my first year doing challenges, so I'm kind of excited. I'm going for Chapter Book level here, which is one book a month and (I hope) do-able, but not so easy it's not challenging :-)

    1. Awesome! That sounds like a good level; I will probably end up moving up.
