15-Day Book Blogger Challenge - Day 3: Blogging BFFs

Click on the picture to check out the challenge and participate!

Today's question is about blogging "BFFs." This is probably the hardest question for me on the whole list.

I've been blogging for less than a year now, and I still feel like I'm getting my bearings in the book bloggy world. Sometimes I'm afraid to even comment on another blog because I feel like that blogger is so much more experienced and well-read than I am; how could I possibly have anything good to say? It wasn't until recently that I started getting braver about that. Also, I have yet to come upon a blog that's very much like my own; I don't feel like I've found a "kindred spirit" yet (and I don't know if I ever will). I'm very picky about which blogs I read, and I'm constantly on the lookout for new blogs to follow. I still feel like I'm finding my niche in the book blogging world. So it's hard for me to say that I have best friends in book blogging.

I read (and love) several blogs silently. I read just about every post on the blogs, but I rarely leave a comment. I'm the worst. I know. I promise I'll do better. But I don't think I can reasonably count these bloggers as "BFFs."

But there are a couple people out there who kindly comment on my blog quite often, and I enjoy their blogs very much as well, so I hope they won't think I'm presumptious if I claim we're BFFs.

1. Jean at Howling Frog Books. Jean is pretty much the coolest. She classically homeschools her kids and works in a library and reads about ten books a week and is a spectacularly intelligent person. And she still reads my blog and comments. Thanks, Jean!

2. Hamlette at The Edge of the Precipice. Aside from having a fabulous pen name, Hamlette has watched all the film versions of everything (and then recommends the good ones to me so I don't have to weed them out myself). Plus, she knows just about everything there is to know about Sherlock Holmes, and she's a wonderful writer. And to my great delight, she offered to send me a film adaptation of Hamlet! (Which pretty much solidifies her status as a blogging angel.) I love reading her comments on my blog and she has a pretty great blog herself!

3. Whitney at She is Too Fond of Books. Whitney has a down-to-earth style and reviews a good mix of classics and modern books. She was the first person to ever mention my blog as a blog of note, and it touched my brand-new-blogger heart. Plus, she is having me guest post on her blog for the first time! (That is, it's my first time guest posting, ever.)

To be honest, everyone who reads my blog deserves a space as my blogging best friend, because you are all wonderful. I hope you enjoy your time in my little corner of the blogosphere as much as I do!

  1. Awww -- thank you! You're fast becoming one of my blogging bffs too -- it's so lovely finding another person who understands that reading a book for enjoyment and analyzing a book to find its deeper meanings do not have to be mutually exclusive ways of reading!

But I'm afraid you're wrong -- I don't know much about Sherlock Holmes at all, not compared to many. I've read next to none of the scholarly books, papers, monographs, etc. that people write about him. But I do read whatever I can find about him.

And I've seen woefully few film versions of classic books -- only 5 Austen adaptations, for instance. But I make up for that by watching every version of Hamlet I can lay my hands on ;-)

I hope you get your movie soon! I'm so excited that you'll get to revel in it.

And thanks for linking to my blogs! You're very sweet. I look forward to continuing our friendship for years to come.

    1. I'm so glad! You're so right "that reading a book for enjoyment and analyzing a book to find its deeper meanings do not have to be mutually exclusive ways of reading"--what a lovely way to put it! And despite your humility, I retract nothing. :) I'm super excited to get the movie! I'm going to have to find a suitable way to repay you. :) I'm very grateful to count you as a blogging friend.

  2. Aw, thanks! That is very nice of you to say. :) I don't quite get to ten books a week, but I sure wish I did.

    1. I am also shy about posting comments, which is really pretty silly as I'm always happy to GET them, and I figure everybody else is too.

    2. It sure seems like ten books a week to me! I'm exactly the same with comments--I know other bloggers love any and all comments just as much as I do, so I don't know why I'm so intimidated to write them.

  3. I'm flattered Emily, you just warmed my blogger heart! Personally, I think you have a very down-to-Earth way of writing too. I've pretty shy about commenting, but your posts always make me smile.
